Grammar Section: Grammar Practice
  • Copy each sentence below.
  • Label each word in the sentence: noun, pronoun, verb, article, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, interjection.
  • Label each part of the sentence: subject, verb, object, prepositional phrase.
    1. The book is sitting on the shelf.
    2. My new computer makes strange noises.
    3. Good students always try their best to learn.
    4. The shop owner sold thirty-three apples to my cousin.
    5. After they left the beach, Joe and Jane decided to go to the mountains.
    6. The duck and the elephant are not very good friends.
    7. She always sings English songs or German songs.
    8. She never sings Chinese songs after three o'clock on a Tuesday in July.
    9. How did you like the movie?
    10. This is the most fun I have ever had in class.

  • Continue reading.
  • Students keep summary sentences as we read.

Reading Section: Mark the Text, Fast Food article
  • Give students time to read the article on their own, marking the text. (first reading).

Reading Section: Summary Sentences, Fast Food article
  • lead students through the first two paragraphs.
  • Students work in groups to complete the remaining paragraphs.

Reading Section: Elements of Short Story "The Most Dangerous Game"
  • Complete an EOSS chart for the story.

Reading Section: Chart the Text, Fast Food article
  • Give student groups time to chart the article before being tested on it.
